Happy Weekend, Cougar Families!

This week is a busy, five-day week at CCS! There are many special learning opportunities and events happening this week, which is officially also School Safety Week. We will be spreading our conversations and drill practice over this week and next to allow for success. Here are other details for families to keep in mind:

1. Our instructional day begins at 8:05.  When dropping off students, please ensure they arrive in lots of time to enter, unpack, grab their breakfast and be settled in their seats for 8:05. Some of the learning in different teams and classes this week includes: tree planting, a virtual career exploration, visits to the Centreville Fire Hall, a virtual visit to the Supreme Court of Canada, an off-site visit to the Meduxnekeag Preserve, immunizations, Cross-Country finals and Safety Week events.  We appreciate every family’s effort to support regular attendance and prompt arrival times so that all can take part and we can make the days run smoothly.

2. This week, there are two free lunches!  Tuesday, K-2 students will be offered pasta with cheese sauce and a cookie.  Grades 3 – 8 students will be offered baked potato with options of butter, cheese sauce and salsa, and a cookie.  Students may choose to bring their own preferred lunch items to have with or instead of the free offerings.  Wednesday, all students will have the option of grilled cheese and veggies to have with or instead of their own preferred lunch items. We appreciate the care and time from volunteers from the Women’s Institute and members of the Western Valley Regional Service Commission that allow these amazing free lunch options for our students!

3. Middle School Cross-Country Finals occur this week.  Grade 6 parents and those who wish to cheer on our runners, please take note of the details for Tuesday:

MCS is excited to host the Grade 6 final on Tuesday, October 17th. The race will be 2 kms at Meduxnekeag Consolidated School, and will begin and finish at the back of the school. Runners will run along a section of School St, then across the field beside the apartments making their way back on to the MCS property to complete the run using the track and various parts of the property. The course will be marked out and with volunteers placed at various points. Family members/spectators park in the front two parking lots. After parking, they can make their way across the playground to the back of the school. The boys’ race will begin at 4 pm and the girls’ at 4:15. Medals for the first three finishers in both races will be presented following the races, along with the District banner to the top school. Best of luck to runners!

4. The immunization clinic for Grade 7 students occurs this Friday.  A reminder message specific to Grade 7 families follows below.  All parents/guardians need to register whether or not they wish for their child to receive one or both immunizations.

5.  We hope you have been sharing the Poinsettia fundraiser with friends and family. Many student activities that impact all students cannot occur without these raised funds, so we appreciate your effort to hit our sales targets of 302 poinsettias.  Please let the school know if you have questions or need replacement/additional order forms.  Order forms can be brought to the office this week and sales continue until October 24th.  Order forms come in including for sales paid for online so that we can ensure our count is correct.

6. Please also be reminded that next Tuesday, October 24th is picture day, and submissions for the Remembrance Day Art and Writing Contests are due in the office by November 2nd.

Thank you and have a great week!

For parents/guardians of all Grade 7 students:
