Good afternoon, Cougar Families! Here are updates and news items for next week, October 23 – 27 at CCS. It is a five-day school week next week. We will continue with safety reminders and drills through the week. Also . . .

1. Tuesday, October 24 is Picture Day. It is also the day we will practice our bus evacuations at dismissal time. We expect buses to roll out of the yard on time, but if there is a little delay for arrival home on Tuesday, that is likely why.

2. Wednesday, the free hot lunch option this week will be cheese or pepperoni pizza, and yogurt for dessert. Grilled cheese will return the following week.

3. Middle School athletics:  Badminton Club will be offered to all boys and girls in Grades 6, 7, and 8 afterschool on Tuesdays starting October 25th from 2:30 – 3:30.   Interested students will need their gym shoes and a ride picking them up at 3:30. Thanks to Mr. Robinson for offering this opportunity to our Cougars! At this time, there is no cost associated with badminton.

The season that follows badminton is basketball. Middle schoolers are welcome to come to open gym basketball starting Monday, October 23. Coach Brad MacMillan will offer open gym for boys on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 – 7:00 and Coach Ian Thomas will offer open gym for girls  on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 – 8:30.  Open gym is free. In December, when team selection is made, basketball fees will be $50 + the refundable $25 uniform deposit that is returned when uniforms are returned in good condition.

4. If you heard a rumour that there is a dance at CCS on Thursday, you’ve heard correctly! We will send specific reminders about expectations for dances early next week, but here are the details to note in your calendar:  The grade 3 – 5 dance is from 6:00 to 7:00 and the grade 6-8 dance is from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  Admission to the dance is $5. The money collected is used to defray the cost of hosting the dance; any surplus funds will be deposited in the fundraising-general account to be used for student activities at CCS. Students may choose to wear a costume to the dance. No masks or weapons, please. Halloween Dance 2023.png

5.  The poinsettia fundraiser wraps up next week. Please use this weekend to reach out to friends and family with whom you may not have connected and send order forms in so that your orders can be tabulated.   We would also appreciate your paying the balance of or a payment on any outstanding student fees.  The money from student fees and fundraisers is used to create multiple events and activities that benefit all students and we wish to make all those things (often what the kiddos most remember!) available to them.

6. If you did not pick your apples this fall, Florenceville Middle School is doing an apple fundraiser.  I’ve attached the info in case you’d like some apples and/or to support their fundraising as well. FMS Apple 2023 Prices and Due date.PNG

Take care and have a wonderful weekend!
