Happy Sunday, Cougar Families! There are quite a few initiatives and extras this week at CCS. Here are a few to note:

1. We’ve had a change in the menu, but will still offer free hot lunch to students twice this week. Tuesday, students will be offered pizza, and Wednesday is our regular grilled cheese and veggies/fruit lunch.  As always, students are reminded to bring their water bottles to the cafeteria to have with their lunch, and pack their buckets with snacks or other items they wish to have along with what is offered.

2. Grade 8 students will be selling raffle tickets on a Spring Basket of goodies starting this weekend and going until March 27. The draw date for the winning ticket will be Thursday, March 28, before the Easter weekend. Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. All proceeds will go to their Grade 8 Leaving Party in June. This is a cash only sale and will not be done through School Cash Online. Please contact any Grade 8 student for tickets.

3. The CCS PSSC (Parent School Support Committee) meets this week on Wednesday at 6:30.  In November 2023, EECD announced that it will begin to implement several long-term recommendations put forward by the executive steering committee to improve the anglophone education sector.  Part of the work of PSSCs across the province in their February or March meeting is to provide feedback regarding these recommendations. While all our PSSC meetings are open to parents/school community to audit, we would invite those who wish to be included in the dialogue about these recommendations and what CCS will provide as feedback to attend the meeting this week. Alternatively, you could choose to write responses and send them with a PSSC member to be voiced at the meeting. Please see the attached presentation which describes the recommendations as well as the questions that PSSC will consider as part of the discussion. EECD – LTR Discussion Document.pdf

4. There are a few ‘special’ days and events in the calendar this week.

Tuesday, Harvey’s Studio photographer will be at the school to take photos of groups and teams. Wear your smile!

– The MS Girls’ Volleyball Team will start their season by playing games at 5:00 and 6:00 on Tuesday at Hartland Community School. We host at CCS next Wednesday, March 27.  (Girls on the team are reminded to return Code of Conduct and fees to office ASAP to pick up jerseys.)

Tuesday is International Read to Me Day, a great opportunity for all families to share reading together.

– We are grateful that Mrs. Petley has arranged for the Rocks and Rings program to come to CCS to share experiential activities around curling in the gym on Thursday

Thursday is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. While we engage in this conversation regularly, Thursday is a great time to reconnect on this important topic with family.

Thursday is also World Down syndrome Day and the Student Leadership Group will be asking students to wear colourful and/or mismatched socks as a part of the Canadian “Lots of Socks” campaign which brings awareness to the Down syndrome community.

– Grade 7 and 8 students involved in the Partners for Youth program have their next session this Friday

5. Not this week, but note in your calendar . . . Although for most, basketball season will have wrapped up, there will be an opportunity for boys from the Carleton North Feeder schools to continue (or start!) basketball skills.  Mr. Robinson will host Open Gym Basketball for Grade 5, 6 and 7 Boys of CCS, BCS and Florenceville-Bristol, at CCS from 7:00 – 8:30 on Tuesdays and Fridays in April and May.  The first session will be next Tuesday, March 26th.  (There will be no session on Good Friday.)

Wishing everyone a wonderful week!!
