Happy Monday, Cougar Families! Here are some things note about this coming week.

1. Tomorrow, students may choose to ‘light it up blue’ and wear blue in recognition of World Autism Day. We will also have our monthly assembly in recognition of Cougar Traits on Tuesday. We are wrapping up our discussions around perseverance and the focus in April is honesty.

2. There will be Grade 3-5 Drama practice Tuesday from 2:30 – 3:30. All drama parents/guardians are reminded that they must send written confirmation of the end of day routine for each afterschool drama practice so we can ensure everyone has a plan of getting home safely. Please ensure rides arrive for pickup at 3:30.

3. Grade 5-7 Boys’ Open Gym Basketball will be on Tuesday and Friday from 7:00 – 8:30.

4. Girls’ Volleyball resumes this week with regular practices on Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 – 8:30.

5. Grilled cheese will be the free hot lunch on Wednesday

6. Grades 5 – 8 have been working diligently at Heritage Fair projects and judging will take place at the Fair on Thursday morning. Please ensure all materials and supports are here at the school in preparation for that presentation day!

7. We will continue to support learning around the upcoming Solar Eclipse this week at school. If you have not already done so, please visit the Home and School Facebook page to view Mme Shaw’s video and/or Mrs. Debertin’s reminders about safe viewing and care for the glasses we sent home last week. Please also note the attached Canadian Optometrist Association eye safety.jpg .

8. Next Monday, April 8th will be a half day for all students in the district.  All District of Carleton North school students will be traveling by bus to the high school that morning for a special presentation by Canadian astronaut and engineer, Chris Hadfield. This amazing opportunity is made possible by the foresight and planning of several people long before this year and the financial commitment of many including our local service district leadership, Rotary Club, Carleton North Community Foundation, and the student fees from the schools. This is an example of how student fees make learning opportunities that are beyond the normal scope of schools possible. Thanks to everyone who has paid or been making regular payments on student fees to afford us this and other events and opportunities for our students possible. For those who have yet to complete payment of this year’s student fee, we would appreciate your making arrangement with Mrs. McIntosh this or next week to make payment.

9. End of day routine: While we understand there are activities, like drama, which require changes in routine, and sometimes unavoidable medical or emergency events require a change of end of day, the number of requests for change has been very high. Typically students should be using their typical exit routine for that day throughout the term or year; requests for bussing changes will be denied when it is not a pre-existing typical stop for that child and/or emergency situation. When a change is required for safety, please make sure you communicate that one change to the teacher and/or Mrs. McIntosh in the morning of that day.  Calls for changes in the afternoon are challenging to ensure we get all students headed in the right direction, and it is not reasonable to expect the school to be able to coordinate changes, even for emergencies, after 2:00 pm.  Parents/Guardians picking up students at end of day dismissal are asked to wait in their vehicle until dismissal after buses depart at 2:30.  If your child has an appointment that requires an early departure, please come and pick them up before 2:00.  The 2:00 – 2:20 time has many moving parts in a family of 250 and we appreciate your understanding. Thank you!

Wishing you a great week!
